The Time My Twitter Account Got Locked
A malicious attempt to take over @mikeburgersburg has locked me out. Follow our backup @dirtybubblemed until we can resolve this issue!
What a crazy month. It has been less than two weeks since one of our primary subjects, Celsius Network, announced that they were “pausing” all customer withdrawals from their platform due to “extreme market conditions.” I found myself in the middle of the story.
I had been warning about the many mistakes, questionable business relationships, and risky investments the company was making for several months. Somewhat accidentally, I had also shown that Celsius was facing both a liquidity and solvency crisis due to their decision to stake large amounts of Ether in the Eth2 contract, then use a derivative “stETH” token as collateral for loans:
As a result, I was interviewed by podcasts and multiple media outlets. My reporting was verified by Coindesk and the Nansen blockchain analysis firm. And, I even got to be interviewed in the “$10 million studio” by the Youtube “internet detective” Coffeezilla, whose work on other crypto scams was an inspiration for this project. And my Twitter following on my account, @MikeBurgersburg, increased from ~6,000 to over 21,000 in a week.
And then, yesterday, I received this odd notification. Odd, because I hadn’t turned two-factor authentication off on my Twitter account:
I then attempted to access my account, only to be greeted by this response:
However, I could not change my password as Twitter told me the email associated with the account could not be found… so I was left to report this event to Twitter support. Their initial response was essentially “too bad, go back another account.”
What happened? I honestly have no clue. One of my friends discovered after this happened that apparently Twitter allows two-factor authorization to be shut off without activating two-factor authorization… Regardless, this was likely a malicious attempt to shut me up and keep honest criticism out of the crypto industry.

Ultimately, this is just a hobby project and the loss of a Twitter account is a small price to pay. Regardless of the outcome, I will continue to expose bad actors and scams, because I’m still having fun!
Keep up your important work. I respect the fact that ypou spread the truth. The whole industry is treating us like dumb sheep while making backroom insider deals away from our eyes.
Although I dont have real evidence, it seems certain people are not allowing somr people to hear certain things. My Patreon Bitcoinben and Papajo paid membership stopped working on two factor authentication after months of no problems! both t-mobile and Patreon are blamming each other for this and now I am not allowed either channels ???
